Robert was born in Heage in Derbyshire in 1960, and went on to study Fine Art at Chesterfield and Leicester schools of art.
His formal training was in painting, but he felt more at home with the technical processes involved with printmaking and photography.
Robert's earliest photographic work was as part of 'mixed-media' pieces, combining facets of painting, printmaking and basic photographic techniques. As he became more confident, his photographic images became stronger, and there was less need for other elements.
Today, Robert combines elements of traditional techniques and materials with the exciting developments offered through digital processing and printing.
Landscape and the environment have always been the main inspirations behind his work. Whether it is a grand sweeping vista or a small detail of texture, each offers an opportunity to explore and present a new viewpoint.
