A native of the Midlands, Mike trained as an art teacher at Bretton Hall College in Yorkshire, where he gained his degree in art and education. After twenty three years of work in public service in Northamptonshire and North Yorkshire, Mike moved to the Shropshire/Staffordshire border in 1997 to become a freelance artist and teacher.
Specializing in watercolour, Mike paints a wide range of subjects which reflect his fascination with landscape, both natural and man-made.
"My aim is always to tap into the essential quality of a subject, and evoke something of that fleeting spirit which makes it special.
Watercolour painting is ideal for capturing that transience, requiring a fine balance between careful planning and outright spontaneity."
