Charlotte Hupfield - Ceramic Artist
Individually hand-built, sculptural ceramic vases and decorative bowls.
Charlotte Hupfield is a ceramic artist based in Northamptonshire. Charlotte has recently graduated with a degree in Applied Arts from Coventry University. The collection of work we have is representative of her most up-to-date work.
Charlotte has always been attracted to natural surroundings and elemental surfaces. She is genuinely drawn to landscape, in particular beaches following a visit to Cornwall.
"Whilst concealed amongst these surroundings, I felt relaxed and at home. I find it amazing to see the changes in rocks and coves on the beach caused by weathering and erosion from the sea. It is this particular aspect that my ceramics connect to."
Each piece of Charlotte's work has a very tactile surface, you can't help but want to physically relate to the piece aswell as admiring it's visual qualities.
Nature plays a large part in her designs, each piece although being hand-built has a very organic quality.
Pam Helps - Glass Artist
Pam was introduced to glass in the late 1980's, whilst studying for a degree in craft at Alsager College, part of Manchester University.
Originally producing ceramic works, as well as experimenting with glass and papermaking, Pam became more and more interested in the potential of kiln fired glass, she has been producing kiln formed pieces ever since.
The work consists of layers of flat, clear glass with a variety of inserts between the layers. The range that we stock in the gallery has a variety of hand drawn designs on paper, producing a range of pieces with several general themes. The range contains wall/window hangings, coasters and paperweights, all individually created.
Pat Clarke Fantasy Painter
Contemporary Painter of Fantasy & Imagination
A trained painter, Pat has only recently started to paint again seriously. This follows several years away from her easel working in restoration, she specialized in Chinese and Japanese lacquer work.
Pat's return to painting coincided with her moving to the Isle of Wight, where she has found inspiration for her painting, and has fully imersed herself in the local arts events and exhibitions.
Pat enjoys working on her decorative fantasy pictures. The paintings always start with an idea lightly sketched onto the paper, everything else that happens from this point just evolves naturally, without following a rigid plan. Pat says of her work, "I like the way the snakes can break up a picture, adding to the patchwork quality. The repetitive flower pattern motifs give a look of fabric or embroidery. Occasionally ther is a simple message in the work, but mostly the viewers make up their own stories, or try to place the subjects".
The original paintings that these prints are taken from, are all in watercolour with gold and silver inks. In some cases bronzing powder in lacquer, and an occasional use of glitter to pick up the light are used. Pat puts her use of gold down to her years of restoration work.
Since 2005 Pat has been a member of the Society of Free Painters and Sculptors, an avant-garde group based in London, set up by members of the Institute of Contemporary Art in 1952. She is also a member of the Society for Art of Imagination.
Pat has exhibited in many prestigious venues in both the UK and abroad, and she has had work accepted by both The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and The Royal Watercolour Society.
We have a range of mounted prints in the gallery, they can be seen in the Paintingsection, under the main Paintings menu at the top of the page.
Bernard Glynn Jones - Wooden Boat Sculptures
Bernard has a degree in Fine Art from Durham University, and has taught design and ceramics in schools and colleges for over 30 years. Since retiring he has been experimenting with various media including reclaimed and recycled materials, initially to produce two-dimensional images, but later moving into more three-dimensional work. The theme of ‘boat sculptures’ emerged over time and this is what he now enjoys and concentrates on.
His sculptures vary in size from a metre in length down to a few centimetres – the size being dictated mainly by the materials he finds. he can often be observed visiting skips and factory sites looking for suitable materials. Old furniture, gates and fencing for example form a rich supply of ‘hulls’ and umbrella frames provide an excellent supply of masts. However, he finds much of what we discard can be put to use. The rustier and more damaged, the better.
"Essentially I want my sculptures to be fun but I hope that by using the materials in a witty and imaginative way I can bring out the beauty in much that we throw away".
Julian Dpencer - Gilded Clocks
A range of traditionally gilded wooden mantle and wall clocks, hand made by Julian Spencer in Cornwall.
Each clock is cut to size, the wooden surface is then coated with several layers of super-fine plaster called Gesso. The Gesso is used to even out any imperfections or grain in the wood. Once dry and sanded smooth, the next stage is to apply two coats of Boll. Boll is a ceramic bases pigment that seals the Gesso, and acts as an undercoat for the metal leaf to be applied. Before the leaf can be applied, a thin coat od gold-size is brushed onto the surface, the leaf is then applied by hand whilst the size is still tacky. The final finish is crated by a combination of burnishing and antiquing techniques. Each clock is an individual piece, no two are ever exactly alike.
Prices range from £49.95 for the mantle clocks, £59.95 for the long rectangular and square wall clocks, to £64.95 for the disk wall clocks.
Chris Kampf Fun Metal Sculptures
Cartoon Style Metal & Wood Animal Sculptures
From his studio in Somerset, Chris has spent the past few years creating a range of individually handmade sculptures around a cartoon-style mouse he has named Rex.
Chris uses a mixture of reclaimed and recycled products along side new materials, to create each individual piece. Although he follows a theme for his sculptures, Chris makes sure that there are never two exactly the same.
To keep Rex company, Chris also creates pieces around a cat and a dog. We have chosen a selection of characters to have in the gallery. Fun is a very big part of these fabulous little sculptures.

Carrie and Sean took 2009 out from production to travel around the southern hemisphere. We are looking forward to seeing how her work in 2010 is influenced by their travels.
Lynne Lane - Dichroic Glass Jewellery
Lynne first became interested in silver smithing about 12 years ago, attending courses at the local arts centre in Great Linford in Buckinghamshire. Over the years she has developed her ranges of jewellery and household objects.
Five years ago Lynne studied production techniques in kiln fired glass. Since then she has attended various workshops and courses, all the time gaining a little more of an insight into the properties and possibilities of glass.
Over the last two years, Lynne has specialised in using dichroic glass for her jewellery.
Dichroic glass is formed when very thin layers of quartz crystal and metal oxides are vaporised on to the surface of clear or black glass. This is done in a highly technical vacuum deposition process, which was originally developed for the space industry.
The characteristics of this glass are, that it has a transmitted colour (the colour you see through the glass if the coating is on clear glass), this is different from the reflected colour (the colour you see when light is bounced off the glass). These colours can shift depending on the angle at which it is viewed.
There are over 45 different coloured coatings available on both clear and black glass, including some patterned and some textured. By combining different finishes the end result produces a unique piece of work.
Mary Standing - Enamelled Copper Jewellery
Mary designs and makes a range of unique jewellery by enamelling onto copper. She produces a variety of designs featuring dancers, landscapes, abstracts and some with more whimsical themes.
Although Mary's original training was in fashion and graphic art, her interest in enamelling has developed over the years. Never an exact art, the results can be unpredictable but invariably colourful, vibrant and interesting.
We currently feature a range of pendants, earrings, brooches, bracelets and cufflinks in the gallery.

Neil Chanter - Contemporary Landscapes
Neil developed a keen power of observation of nature during over 30 years as a microbiologist developing vaccines and diagnostics to prevent animal diseases. His interest in natural observation also expressed itself through the hobby of photography, begun as many years ago using a Zenit EM 35mm film camera. Eventually the draw of the hobby overcame the early profession and he switched to full time photography.
Being in the right place at the right time and sensing what level is needed to interact with the subject to achieve the best pictures is the key to how he has produced beautiful images whether for the living room wall, gallery or wedding and portrait albums. This means getting the right blend of friendliness and quietness - to interact but at the quietest level to get the picture.
A selection of Neil's work can be seen in his section under the main 'Photos' menu at the top of the page.
Vaughn Glynn Animal Studies & Landscapes
Animal Studies & Landscapes

Vaughn works from his home studio in Northamptonshire.

When designing, Claire takes inspiration from a diverse range of sources; from the unpredictable world of animal markings to the rigid structures of manmade repeat forms.
