Pat Clarke fantasy & imagination painter

  • Pat Clarke Fantasy Painter
  • Contemporary Painter of Fantasy & Imagination

A trained painter, Pat has only recently started to paint again seriously. This follows several years away from her easel working in restoration, she specialized in Chinese and Japanese lacquer work.

Pat's return to painting coincided with her moving to the Isle of Wight, where she has found inspiration for her painting, and has fully imersed herself in the local arts events and exhibitions.

Pat enjoys working on her decorative fantasy pictures. The paintings always start with an idea lightly sketched onto the paper, everything else that happens from this point just evolves naturally, without following a rigid plan. Pat says of her work, "I like the way the snakes can break up a picture, adding to the patchwork quality. The repetitive flower pattern motifs give a look of fabric or embroidery. Occasionally ther is a simple message in the work, but mostly the viewers make up their own stories, or try to place the subjects".

The original paintings that these prints are taken from, are all in watercolour with gold and silver inks. In some cases bronzing powder in lacquer, and an occasional use of glitter to pick up the light are used. Pat puts her use of gold down to her years of restoration work.

Since 2005 Pat has been a member of the Society of Free Painters and Sculptors, an avant-garde group based in London, set up by members of the Institute of Contemporary Art in 1952. She is also a member of the Society for Art of Imagination.

Pat has exhibited in many prestigious venues in both the UK and abroad, and she has had work accepted by both The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and The Royal Watercolour Society.

We have a range of mounted prints in the gallery, they can be seen in the Paintingsection, under the main Paintings menu at the top of the page.
